West Suffolk College advanced in the English Colleges Premier Cup thanks to a 2-1 victory at South Essex College last week.
Liam Wales broke the deadlock when he headed in a corner from man-of-the-match Ryan Jolland at the back post in the 30th minute.
A defensive error allowed a soft equaliser for the home team in the 44th minute.
However, Wales blocked a clearance from the home goalkeeper and walked the ball into the empty net to put West Suffolk back in front.
South Essex threw caution to the winds in the last 10 minutes and forced West Suffolk goalkeeper Jake Hayhoe to save smartly on two separate occasions.
