Video: Disappointing defeats for Bury and Needham and Bury RFC coach reflects on derby win
Bury Town’s inconsistent form in the Ryman League Premier Division continued on Saturday after they slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Metropolitan Poilce.
Alan Tait’s 20th minute strike broke the deadlock at Ram Meadow before a John Kennedy own goal minutes before the interval proved a decisive blow for Richard Wilkin’s charges, as the visitors clinched all three points.
It is much the same story for Needham Market who continue to struggle to find form in Ryman League Division One North, finding themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat away at Tilbury on Saturday, with Duane Wright grabbing the consolation for the Marketmen.
Meanwhile, Walsham-le-Willows closed the gap on Mildenhall Town at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, with a comfortable 3-0 win over Christian Appleford’s side on Saturday.
Andrew Cusack proved the hero, netting an impressive hat-trick to bring the Willows to within just two points of their table-topping hosts.
Elsewhere, Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club clinched an incredible 25th consecutive victory in all competitions this season with a hard fought 18-9 derby victory over rivals Diss at the Haberden (see video above).
