Tuesday round-up: Walsham’s special night, while Bury win

A crowd of 745 packed into Walsham-le-Willows’ Summer Road on Tuesday night as the village team clashed with npower Championship giants Ipswich Town in the first round of the Suffolk Premier Cup.

Although Town proved to be too strong in the end, winning the game 5-1, they only led 1-0 at half-time and scored their final two goals as Willows tired in the final 10 minutes.

But it was Jack Brame who wrote his name into Walsham folklore, smashing home deep into stoppage time to give the home fans something to cheer against an Ipswich side packed with Premier League and Championship experience, including Michael Chopra, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Jason Scotland.

Meanwhile, Bury Town hit back with three second-half goals to secure three vital points in the Ryman League Premier Division on their travels at East Thurrock United.

Trailing at the break to a Sam Collins goal, John Sands levelled within minutes of the start of the second half before Allicion Blake and John Kennedy won the game for the Blues.

Full reports and reaction in Friday’s Bury Free Press, including pictures from Walsham.
