Needham Market manager Mark Morsley is confident the Marketmen’s strength in depth will give his side the edge over their rivals in their pursuit for a Ryman League Division One North play-off place.
That claim was fully evident on Tuesday evening as Sam Newson came off the bench to capitalise on the only clear-cut chance of an otherwise-forgettable tie against promotion rivals Soham Town Rangers and seal a vital 1-0 win.
Despite admitting the play-off picture is far from clear, Morsley — whose side who were set to welcome fellow promotion rivals Thurrock last night, before a trip to Barkingside tomorrow (3pm) and home tie with Waltham Forest on Thursday (7.45pm) — knows squad depth could prove vital.
“There are eight or nine teams in the mix and so everything is all still to play for,” he said. “Our destiny in our own hands but the play-offs are from decided.
“There is definitely a major importance on having a strong squad and thankfully we have that.
“This is a very important time, but fortunately we have a good depth to keep us going — that will be vital.”
