Needham Market got their first win of their newly promoted campaign in the Ryman League Premier Division on Saturday while Bury Town (won), AFC Sudbury (draw) and Soham Town Rangers (defeat) were all FA Trophy action.

Needham hosted Lewes and it was Michael Brothers who met a great cross form the right-hand side with a superb scissor kick in the 55th minute that was enough to secure Mark Morsley’s side a maiden victory, coming after 13 games in the division.

Lewes had midfielder Phil Appiah sent off with 15 minutes left and Needham held on to secure the win.

The Marketmen are next in action when they travel to Metropolitan Police on Saturday (3pm).

Soham Town were knocked out of the FA Trophy at home to Carlton Town, losing 3-1 at Julis Martin Lane.

Steve Fallon’s side are back in Ryman One North action on Saturday with an away fixture at Brightlingsea Regent (3pm), who they have lost to in their last two meetings.

AFC Sudbury will try again to overcome Barton Rovers in the FA Trophy after a 1-1 draw on Saturday set up a replay at The Wardale Williams Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Jamie Godbold’s Yellows took the lead through a Ryan Henshaw header before Barton equalised just before the break.

AFC will be looking to use home advantage to win through to the next round tomorrow, which would set up a tie at Hendon.

Bury Town had no such issues at Faversham Town, pocketing the £2,500 at the first opportunity, courtesy of Remi Garrett’s 71st minute winner, the only goal of the game.

The west Suffolk Blues were given a helping hand after Faversham’s John Scarborough was sent off in the 56th minute.

Ben Chenery’s side will host Kings Langley in the first qualifying round of the competition on Saturday, October 31 (7.45pm).

Bury are back in action tomorrow when they bid to maintain their unbeaten Ryman One North record at home to Heybridge Swifts (7.45pm).
