Rising stars have to wait for their chance to shine
STOWMARKET Town manager Shane Austin has raided former club Bramford United for two of their brightest young prospects.
The Gold and Blacks have snapped up brothers Luke and Adam Webster, who have scored 21 goals between them in 30 matches this season.
However, Austin expects neither to be involved in tomorrow’s home clash with Ridgeons League First Division leaders Godmanchester Rovers (3pm) and will instead blood them in during midweek fixtures ready for next campaign.
“They are for next year mainly,” said the Greens Meadow-based outfit chief. “They are quite young and they want to make the step up, so we are going to give them a chance. I will try to slowly bring them into the team.”
Second-bottom Stow’s visit to Long Melford in the First Division on Saturday and the First Division Knockout Cup quarter-final at home to Whitton United on Tuesday both fell victim to the weather, the latter because a burst pipe flooded part of the pitch.
The Whitton match is now scheduled for Tuesday, March 28.
That has left Austin focusing on tomorrow’s home clash with a Godmanchester side who have not suffered defeat in the league since August.
“They have always been quite strong, but they have added to their play this season,” said Austin. “But I think we can cause them some problems up front — our new players are starting to bed in.”
Stow have earned four points from their last two league games, and were denied victory over promotion- chasing March Town United by a last-gasp equaliser.
