Wickhambrook Under-17s enjoyed a worthwhile trip to Lancashire over the Whitsun Bank Holiday by lifting the Bolton Youth Cup.
They topped their group with after picking up four wins, with victories over Mersey Bank (1-0), QK Southampton (3-1), Wythenshawe (4-2) and Southport’s Jaguars (3-1).
Their only defeat in the group stage, played at Bolton Wanderers’ Lostock training ground, came in their final match against fellow finalists AFC Monton from Bolton.
After losing to the Lancashire side during the group stage, Wickhambrook were not to make the same mistake again in the final, played at Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium.
David Cowley gave Wickhambrook the best start by drilling home from 25 yards before doubling his tally when bundling home from close range after good play by Tom Warnock and Jack Whiting.
Wickhambrook sealed the 3-0 win, and the competition, with Free firing home Cowley’s blocked effort.
