Danny Cunningham insists there is plenty of time for him to reproduce his goal which has received national attention in a Stowmarket Town shirt, writes Alex Moss.
The midfield playmaker, who is the captain of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division side, was in the spotlight last week when the television show Soccer AM posted a video online of a recent goal he scored while playing for his Sunday team, AFC Bergholt, in the Ipswich Sunday League.
Described as an ‘unbelievable finish’ by Soccer AM, Cunningham is hoping he will get the chance to recreate the goal in a Stow shirt in the not so distant future.
“The video was floating about on Facebook and someone (from Soccer AM) has got in contact and we’ve sent the original copy over,” the 28-year-old explained.
“Loads of people have seen it. I’ve had phone calls saying ‘good goal’ and the Stowmarket fans are saying ‘can we please see that on a Saturday?’
“Hopefully I can do that at some point this season, if not next. There’s time to come.”
Cunningham, who ended last season by helping AFC Sudbury win the Ryman League Division One North title, dropped down two divisions to join Stow in the summer and admits this campaign has been one of the best of his career.
“To be honest with you, it’s been one of my best seasons personally,” he said.
“Saturdays are good for me again and I’m really enjoying my football.
“When I met Rick (Andrews) in pre-season we had one objective: to get the club promoted. At the minute, that is where we are going.
“I haven’t just come here for one season. Hopefully we can push the club on in the seasons to come. I’ve got no reason to leave this club.”
