NEWLY-appointed Thetford Rovers manager Simon Brooks is determined to be challenging rivals Thetford Town within four years.
Brooks, who used to manage Town, and joint-manager Rob Sims have set themselves the ambitious target of gaining three promotions to take Rovers, currently playing in the Anglian Combination Division Two, to the Ridgeons League First Division, where they could face Town.
“I had the pleasure of experiencing the rivalry with Thetford Town when I was at Walsham and I really enjoyed it.” said Brooks.
“It was a good rivalry and hopefully within three to four years Rovers will be up there challenging them.
“I believe it is an acheivable aim as we have an extremely forward thingking board. We have a brand new clubhouse, new funding through sponsors and we are looking to build a new stand.
“All of that will ensure Rob and I will achieve what we need to. Often it is off the pitch where problems can happen but our board have the same ambition and vision for the club as we do.”
Before anybody at the club can dream about facing their rivals they have to first achieve their initial aim of gaining promotion this season.
Brooks knows he is in for a tough challenge and despite conceding it won’t be easy, he remained fully focused on achieving his goal.
He said: “With us being involved at a higher level the board felt we could achieve promotion this season.
“We have signed several new players and are definitely aiming to be within the top two and gain promotion.
“We know it is a tough league and promotion is not a given. Other teams have been signing good players but our aim of finishing in those promotion places won’t change.”
