Needham Market have signalled their intent for the forthcoming campaign with the signing of former Football League striker Jamie Guy.

The 25-year-old arrives at Bloomfields with an impressive pedigree having played more than 50 times for Colchester United in the npower Championship, as well as enjoying stints with Dagenham and Redbridge and Port Vale.

He also played a key part in the promotion push that got Braintree Town into the Blue Square Bet Conference Premier Division, before a badly broken leg halted his career for 13 months.

However, after rehabilitation periods at Thurrock and Maldon and Tiptree last season, Guy will look to continue to get his career back on track with the Marketmen after signing a two-year deal with Mark Morsley’s side.

“We are very pleased to have signed Jamie, it is a big signing in many ways for us,” said the manager.

“Being a former Colchester United and Braintree player we know he has quality but it was also important that at 25 he still has some very good years ahead of him.

“He has had a difficult couple of years with injury but that looks to be behind him and he is certainly in the right frame of mind.

“We don’t sign players for the hell of it, he has a great desire to be successful and when we spoke he had a great interest in everything at the club, the set-up, the staff and the academy.

“He could have got more financially elsewhere but he could see what we are trying to build and he feels he has something to prove, which is what attracted me to him as a player.

“We spoke for a while and nothing was mentioned about the deal financially.

“He was more concerned about the rest of the club and that is what really mattered. “As I said, we are absolutely delighted to have him at the club.”

Guy becomes the Marketen’s fourth signing of the close season as Morsley continues the rebuilding process of his squad.

He joins goal keeper Andrew Plummer, who has returned to the club, while right-back Ollie Brown has signed from Hadleigh United and former Suffolk FA Under-18s captain Matt Cripps has arrived from Stanway Rovers.

“We are delighted to have also signed Ollie from Hadleigh,” he added.

“I’ve watched him a number of times and he was on my radar at Leiston had I stayed there.

“Matt is another one with masses of potential and he has a great attitude.

“They are both solid defensively and also comfortable on the ball which is something were are keen on in the way we are looking to play.

“The squad is certainly taking shape and we are also in ongoing talks with a number of other players, who we are hoping to add to the team very soon.”

Meanwhile, the club have also announced their pre-season fixture list commencing on Tuesday, July 16 with a trip away at Brightlingsea Regent (7.45pm).

That will be followed with further trips to Gorleston three days later (3pm) and to Christian Appleford’s Mildenhall Town on Tuesday, July 23, (7.45pm).

The Marketmen then welcome Colchester United to Bloomfields four days later (3pm), then head to Brantham Athletic on the 30th (7.45pm) before finally entertaining East Thurrock United on Saturday, August 3, (3pm).
