EX-NORWICH City midfielder Dale Gordan is set to bring his host of ex-Canaries and Tractor Boys back to Diss Town for a special legends match in July, writes Russell Claydon.
Former City striker Leon Mckenzie, who only retired last year, will be one of the star names to face a Diss Legends side as the Tangerines look for revenge on last season’s 7-0 drubbing.
That day Darren Huckerby scored a hat-trick against the side put together from Diss’ 1994 FA Vase winning side to kick off celebrations of the club’s 125th year anniversary.
And wing wizard Huckerby, Dion Dublin, Darren Eadie, Iwan Roberts, Paul McVeigh and Daryl Sutch, from the yellow-and-green corner, are all ready to help bring the curtain down on the club’s landmark season.
Ipswich Town fans will not be disappointed either, with Fabian Wilnis, Jazon Dozzell, John Wark, Russell Osman and Simon Milton all also heading for some fun in the sun at Brewers Green Lane as well.
Gordon, who runs Legend Events are a full-time business including tour matches all over the country and legends dinners, told the Diss Express: “I felt last year’s event was a major success, especially with the kids’ tournament before the game, so I spoke to Dickie Upson (Diss chairman) to say we wanted to come back.”
He added: “It is another opportunity for the people of Diss to come out and support the football club, who will obviously benefit from it as well.”
The 3pm kick off game, which will be £10 entry and £5 for concessions on the gate only, will also allow three places at £150 each for ordinary supporters to join the legends on the pitch and in the dressing room for the day.
