Laws looking for a bumper crowd

NEEDHAM Market manager Danny Laws has encouraged fans to show their support ahead of the club’s FA Cup first qualifying round tie against Ely City on Saturday.

The Marketmen will be aiming to avoid an upset against their Ridgeons League Premier Division opposition.

Tuesday night’s 7-0 demolition of Great Wakering Rovers stretched Needham’s unbeaten home record to four matches and Laws is hopeful of enticing a bumper crowd.

“It is fantastic to have another home draw in the competition,” he said.

“There were 260 here against Felixstowe, which was a great crowd, and I want to push that up again on Saturday.

“I’m sure the crowd will come and support us again and hopefully enjoy another home performance like against Great Wakering.”

Needham could be without leading marksman Sam Newson. The striker was forced off after a heavy challenge in the second half against Great Wakering.

The manager has conceded it is too early to know if Newson will feature as he sets out to better the club’s third qualifying round elimination of last season.

He said. “The FA Cup is a fantastic competition and we are aiming to go further than we ever have before.

“We gave Felixstowe the respect they deserved and we will be doing the same for Ely.”
