Hectic schedule means Darcy’s staying put
NEEDHAM Market manager Danny Laws has revealed he has been forced to shelve any plans of sending defender Darcy De’ath out on loan due to the fixture congestion created by recent postponements.
The manager had planned to allow De’ath to go out on a short term loan following last weekend’s trip to Grays Athletic but after that was postponed, the second in as many weeks for the Marketmen, Laws has had to re-think his plans as he now faces the prospect of playing seven matches in just 28 days, starting with tomorrow’s trip to sixth placed Tilbury (3pm).
“With us having so many games in such a short space of time it was not ideal for Darcy to go out on loan because he will have an important role to play in the coming weeks,” he said.
“Losing him would have had too big an impact, so we definitely need him at the moment.
“He has that physical presence and that will certainly be needed with four big away games coming up including tough trips to Grays Athletic and Potters Bar Town.”
Despite the continuing adverse weather conditions disrupting the fixture list, Needham have been able to continue training throughout, leaving Laws pleased with sides match preparations, as he aims to maintain the Marketmen’s three match unbeaten run, but warned his players against the threat of tomorrow’s opponents.
“Although the postponements have not been welcome, we have been able to train regularly so we are quite comfortable at the moment,” he added.
“It is an annoyance but we just have to get on with it, we are adequately prepared.
“We beat them earlier in the season at home but the 4-1 scoreline flattered us and it will be a different game at their place.
“They shocked us their last season, they have very vocal fans and it will be a different environment to when they visited us.
“They are a strong side and we know we in for a tough match, so we will need to focus and concentrate on securing the win and keep our unbeaten run going.”
