Fans give their support to make event a big hit

Ipswich Town players past and present were put to task by almost 100 supporters at an event hosted at Bury Town Football Club on Monday.

Current Tractor Boys Luke Chambers and Daryl Murphy were joined by ex-Bury and Ipswich midfielder Simon Milton and academy director Bryan Klug at the event held at Ram Meadow, organised by the Ipswich Town Supporters’ Club.

Fans took part in the question and answer session, a quiz, and an auction, raising money for Ipswich’s academy, while merchandise from the official club shop was available to purchase.

Ipswich executive committee member Martin Swallow, who helped organise the event, said: “I think the event was absolutely fantastic.

“I think everyone was captivated by Simon Milton, the two players and Bryan Klug.

“As for Bury Town, they were great hosts. Right from this afternoon they have been there to help set up and the lads have been brilliant, from the lads behind the bar, to doing the food, to helping set up the videos.”

Bury chairman Russell Ward said hosting such events was important to maintaining the link between the two football clubs.

“We see ourselves as a club looking to push forward and obviously forging links and having people come in here for these sorts of nights is good for us,” he said.

“We are looking to work closer with Ipswich and perhaps take on some younger loan players when the opportunity is there.”

Ward added: “We enjoyed hosting it.

“It was a good turnout tonight and we had some very nice comments from people as they were leaving.

“Certainly if the opportunity arose in the future to host we would jump at it.”
