Disciplinary system is the problem says Laws
NEEDHAM Market manager Danny Laws has echoed the sentiments of Bury Town manager Richard Wilkins (see back page) concerning the disciplinary regulations of the Ryman League.
The Ram Meadow chief was forthcoming in his views about the Ryman League’s Respect Campaign, which was highlighted this week with his Blues sitting sitting 58th out 65 clubs, across the three combined leagues, in the fairplay league after picking up 50 bookings and five red cards.
Although the Marketmen fair better in the scored table, at 27th with 29 bookings and six red cards, Laws believes there is a problem within the disciplinary system, but refused to lay the blame at the door of the referees.
“Richard Wilkins is not the first manager to make a comment about disciplinary issues at any level in football this season,” he said.
“It has gone too far and that is nothing to do with the referees, they are are under instruction from the powers above to stick to guidelines.
“Alan Hansen summed it up best for me when he said, a challenge that would have earned you a contract is now getting you a red card.
“We have two options now, either we try and influence some common sense into the structure from top to bottom and hope it prevails, or we have to start instructing our players to play differently.”
Meanwhile, one player that is set to miss Needham’s trip to Grays Ahtletic tomorrow (3pm), weather permitting, is Darcy De’ath as the manger revealed the centre half is set to leave the club on a short term loan.
“Darcey De’ath will be going out on loan, he needs to go out to get some games but he will definitely be returning,” he added.
“The move will also allow us to free up some space in the squad and I have already earmarked attack as the position that needs improving.”
