County clubs’ windfall
SIX Suffolk football clubs have been awarded £30,000 from the Football Foundation’s Grow the Game Fund.
The Grow the Game Fund supports grassroots football clubs which increase participation among players and volunteers.
CFC Bury, AFC Kesgrave, Swanton Herons Girls FC, Needham Market Phoenix Youth FC, Witnesham Wasps Junior FC and Walsham-le-Willows are the six clubs who have been awarded £5,000 each from the fund which can be spent on facility hire, coaching courses, affiliation fees, CRB checks and referee fees.
The money is aimed at sustaining existing teams and growing new teams over the next three years. Suffolk FA worked with all six clubs to help them complete their applications and approved them before they were submitted to the Football Foundation.
Chris Walsh, Suffolk FA County Development Manager, said: “I am delighted that these six clubs have all had their Grow the Game Fund applications approved by the Football Foundation.
“I hope the money will help increase the number of players and volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to help make grassroots football in Suffolk fantastic.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, added: “We are delighted to award six teams in Suffolk with Grow the Game grants which will help increase footballing opportunities in the area.
“The clubs will now work closely with Suffolk FA and the Football Foundation to ensure they are able to meet the participation targets outlined in their applications.” n Another side who will benefit from the fund is Thetford Bulldogs following their award of a £5,000 grant.
The grant will allow the club to achieve their next level of the charter mark, and become a development football club, which will enable them to take children from the age of four to seven in their training school and create an Under-8s team each season.
