Bury and Needham coast to convincing victories

BURY Town recorded back-to-back wins in the Ryman League Premier Division with an emphatic 5-0 victory away to Leatherhead on Saturday.

Midfielder Lee Smith hit an impressive hattrick in between John Sand’s 41st minute opener and a Sam Nunn strike as the Blues coasted to victory to take up them up to fifth and into the play-off places.

Needham Market’s improving form continued in Ryman League Division One North with a comfortable 7-0 victory over Cheshunt at Bloomfields.

Leading marksman Sam Newson returned to the starting line-up after an injury layoff but surprisingly wasn’t one of the seven different scorers who featured on the scoresheet, as goals from Lee McGlone, Duane Wright, Danny Bloomfield, Danny Thrower, James Evans, Deakin Napier and a Josh Kisby own goal secured all three points for the Marketmen.

There was also a convincing victory for Bury St Edmunds RFC in London One North as they over-powered 10th placed Chingford to claim a 59-5 win to extend their unbeaten run to two matches.
