Bury’s hopes off sneaking into the play-off picture were ended despite a hard fought 1-0 win over Hastings United on Tuesday night.

Hastings had the edge in the early exchanges and created the better chances, with Jamie Crellin firing just over and Danny Ellis shooting narrowly wide.

Bury improved as the half progressed and Sam Reed shot straight at Daniel East before Lee Reed went close with a fierce drive from distance as the sides went in level at the break.

The hosts started the second half looking sharper, but failed to trouble East, while at the other end Garnham saved well from Dee Okojie.

However, it was Bury who got the decisive breakthrough on the hour mark when a free-kick by Lee Reed was headed home at the far post by Evan Key.

The game opened up as Hastings fought back with Garnham forced into a flying save to deny Fred Warren.

Hastings were reduced to 10 men when substitute Tom Vickers was sent off for violent conduct as Bury held on comfortably for the victory.
