Bury lay the groundwork for promotion push

BURY Town chairman Russell Ward has declared the club ready to push for promotion from the Ryman League Premier Division.

During the last campaign – in which the Blues were beaten in the play-off semi-finals by AFC Hornchurch – Ward stated that Bury would have to fork out £50,000 to spruce up Ram Meadow for just one year of Conference North or South football because their proposed new Moreton Hall ground would not have been ready in time.

However, with the start date to build the community football project drawing ever closer – the final details are just being rectified – there would be no additional financial implication on Bury should they earn promotion in the 2012/13 season.

“Now we can really go for promotion because by the time we have to pass ground-grading criteria we will be in our new stadium,” said the Blues’ chairman, who celebrated a decade in the role last summer.

Should Bury be promoted this coming season, they would need to be in their new ground by March 31, 2014, to be allowed to stay at step two of the non-League pyramid.

Meanwhile, Suffolk Football Association has confirmed it is to become an investment partner of the £2.5m community football scheme, committing a maximum of £250,000 in support of the project.

The site, which will sit alongside the new Bury Town facility following their relocation from Ram Meadow, will comprise a full-size artificial grass pitch, community dressing rooms, education suite and car parking for 244 cars.

It will also form a development hub for Moreton Hall, CFC Bury, Bury Town Youth and Sporting 87, among other sporting and educational clubs.

Phil Knight, Suffolk FA’s chief executive, said: “This project has long since been identified as a priority by Suffolk FA, the FA and the Football Foundation as it offers a unique opportunity to develop a facility in the west of the county that the whole of Suffolk can be proud of.

“My team and I are so excited at the prospect of working with all partner clubs to make this dream finally come true.”
