BURY Town extended their unbeaten run in the Ryman League Premier Division to four matches after a hard fought 4-2 victory over Tooting & Mitcham United at Ram Meadow on Saturday.
Ashley Paul-Robinson put the visitors ahead in the 60th minute before being dismissed just three minutes later. The home side took advantage as captain Tom Bullard and then Billy Clark struck to put Bury ahead after 74 minutes.
However the visitors responded six minutes later, as Kofi Lockhart-Adams drew Tooting & Mitcham level before Sam Reed put the home side in-front once again with nine minutes remaining.
Deep into injury time the visitors were then reduced to nine men as goal keeper Jack Gidden was sent off for a foul on John Sands in the area. Billy Clark stepped up to convert the resulting penalty for his second, clinching all three points for the Blues.
Bury host Corinthian-Casuals in the Alan Boon League Cup Third Round tomorrow night (7.45pm).
Needham Market battled to claim a point on Saturday as they drew 1-1 away to Brentwood Town.
The hosts started brightly and opened the scoring in the first minute as Dean Green punished poor defending to slot home.
The Marketmen had an early opportunity to draw level but Danny Thrower saw his spot-kick saved after Sam Newson was fouled.
However the visitors did draw level shortly after the break as Thrower’s cross was finished off by Danny Bloomfield to give Needham a share of the spoils.
Needham will be in action again tomorrow as they travel to Harlow Town in the league action (7.45pm).
In the rugby, Bury St Edmund’s recent strong form continued as they claimed a third consecutive win with an emphatic 59-20 victory away to Hammersmith & Fulham on Saturday.
