Bury continue improving form as Needham slip to fourth straight defeat

BURY Town’s improving form in the Ryman League Premier Division continued on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Carshalton Athletic at Ram Meadow.

Midfielder Danny Cunningham followed up Lee Reed’s opener, as a goal in each half was enough to secure the Blues all three points and stretch their unbeaten run to three matches.

In stark contrast, Needham Market continue to struggle for form as they recorded their fourth consecutive defeat in Ryman League Division One North, suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Redbridge.

The Marketmen lead with just five minutes to go after an Angelo Harrop penalty and Scott Chaplin strike moments before half time cancelled out Joe Gardner’s early opener.

However, despite the hosts being reduced to ten men after Matthew Turpin’s dismissal in the 84th minute, Redbridge added two quick fire goals through Michael Toner and Gardner’s second of the afternoon to condemn the visitors to defeat.

In the rugby, Bury returned from their festive break in winning fashion recording a 32-22 victory over Rochford Hundred on Saturday.
