BURY Town stretched their unbeaten run in the Ryman League Premier Division to five matches on Saturday with an impressive 3-2 victory away to Margate.

A John Sands double either side of half time proved enough to secure all three points for the Blues, who opened the scoring through Lee Smith after only seven minutes. The hosts drew level twice through Craig Clarke and Richard Avery but had no answer to Sand’s second as the visitors clinched the win.

Bury host Margate again tomorrow in the league (7.45pm).

Like Bury, Needham Market are also enjoying a good run of form and maintained their own five game unbeaten run in Ryman League Division One North with a convincing 4-2 win over strugglers Ilford at Bloomfields.

Lee McGlone’s first half hattrick was added to by Daune Wright four minutes after the interval and despite Rob Carter and Sunday Mathew-Olanipekun reducing the deficit late on it had little affect on the final outcome.

Needham will now be looking to extend their run when the entertain Waltham Abbey tomorrow night (7.45pm).

Meanwhile in the rugby, Bury St Edmunds responded from their 25 point deduction last week with a convincing 59-11 victory at home over Old Colfeians, their fourth consecutive London One North win.
