Football: Six hard-earned points rekindle Town's play-off challenge

SIX points from two games over four days has set Bury Town FC up for the final stage of their season.

The Blues recorded a 2-1 away win against Gt Wakering Rovers on Saturday, before returning to Ram Meadow for an impressive derby 3-1 victory against AFC Sudbury on Tuesday – the match postponed 24 hours because of the weather.

The double success has put Town back in the mix for a Ryman League Division One North play-off place.

"We have recorded two excellent results and the table dictates that we cannot afford to lose any of final five games," said manager Richard Wilkins.

The hosts fought back froma goal down to claim a win against their second-placed midweek visitors and Wilkins wants his side to use that momentum when they travel to Waltham Abbey tomorrow (ko 3pm).

"The win means nothing if we don't build on it over the next few weeks," he said.

"Against Sudbury we showed great character and I thought we did everything correct," added Wilkins.

The Blues are likely to travel without Scott Chaplin, who has a hamstring injury, but are boosted by the return of Lee Reed – who scored Bury's third goal in midweek – Sam Nunn and Michael Steward.

"It is the right time of the season to have players coming back from injury. There is no doubt that they are going to be needed for what is a tough run-in," said Wilkins.
