Football: Revived Blues face table-toppers

Bury Town FC will be at full-strength for the visit of the Ryman League Division One North table-toppers tomorrow (ko 3pm).

Blues captain Tom Bullard and Sam Reed return from their respective one-match suspensions to take their places in defence and in the front line as Town look to topple Edgeware Town.

The Ram Meadow-based outfit will be determined to continue the impressive form that produced a much-needed home win on Saturday (report on page 59).

"We are looking forward to what is going to be a tough test," said Blues team manager Richard Wilkins.

"It is always good to pit your wits against the best teams," he added.

Town claimed a point in a 2-2 draw when the two teams met in late November and Wilkins believes his side will rise to the occasion once again.

"There is no reason why we cannot go one better if we make our home advantage count," said Wilkins.

The Blues shrugged aside a run of three successive defeats to claim a 4-1 win against Arlesey – a result which should have rekindled the team's confidence.

Wilkins, who was unable to be present at Town's last home game, was delighted with the result and subsequent team report supplied by his assistant, Trevor Collins.

"It was an important result for us and I want to see us continue that form to improve our league standing," said Wilkins.

Two-goal star of that victory was ITFC Academy player Liam Barrett, who was making his first start for the Blues following his loan from Portman Road.

The 18-year-old will again lead the front line, this time alongside the returning Sam Reed.

The lively Scott Chaplin, back for the festive break from Stafford Univerity, is also likely to keep his place.

Meanwhile, striker Ian Cambridge is near full recovery from his long-term injury.
