Football: In-form blues return home
BURY Town FC need to show their cup winning form when they return to Ram Meadow for a double dose of league games over the next four days.
Tomorrow, the Blues entertain Barton Rovers (3pm) before Bedworth United are the visitors for BGB Southern League action on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).
Town's cup success continued on Tuesday, following a 3-1 away League Cup win against Leighton Town. That win came four days after the Blues had claimed a 2-1 FA Trophy third round qualifying away win at Hampton & Richmond.
Both sides are below their hosts in Division One Midlands, but the Blues will not be complacent.
"The cup runs are great for players and supporters, but our priority this season still remains to make the league play-offs at the end of the season," said team manager Richard Wilkins.
"We are facing a tough December fixture list and I want us to get it off to the best possible start with two wins this week," he added.
Brothers Lee and Sam Reed will be missing from the Blues' line-up, but defender Roscoe Hipperson and midfielder Gavin Johnson are both nearing full match fitness following injuries.
Also returning will be Ashley Sloots, who missed the midweek action due to illness, and the in-form Scott Chaplin continues to be available.
"It is going to be tough this week but the players I have available are full of confidence and up for the task," said Wilkins.
Chaplin (2) and Steve Bugg were the goalscorers in Bury's 3-1 midweek League Cup win against Leighton Town.
The Ram Meadow chief was delighted with this result and his side's FA Trophy display on Saturday – that win putting them into the first round proper where they will travel to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, December 13 – the Blues third successive away tie.
"It would have been good to have a home draw, but we will prepare as we have for the other ties and travel with confidence," said Wilkins.
"In both cup matches we played some very good football and I want us to continue to do that in front of our home crowd," he added.
Left-sided midfielder James Paterson has joined Ridgeons League Premier Division side, Mildenhall Town.
