Football: Blues back home
BURY Town FC are disappointed not to have strengthened their squad prior to a busy festive period of three games over an eight-day period.
Blues' team boss Richard Wilkins had hoped to bring in one or two new faces following the departure of defenders Darren Coe and Carl Murkin as a Chrtismas boost to his side.
However, although negotiations are on-going, it seems unlikely that negotiations will be concluded until the new year.
"We need to add some experience and strength to the squad, but it has to be the right players," said Wilkins.
"It is a pity that things have not worked out before Chritsmas, but we have a good team already and they will have to pull together a bit more to get us through the next three games," he added.
The Blues return to home soil following four successive away Ryman League Divsion One North games, hosting Wyngate & Finchley at Ram Meadow tomorrow (ko 3pm).
They will be looking for a good performance to take them into a tough Boxing Day test, away at table-topping neighbours AFC Sudbury (ko 3pm).
Town return to Ram Meadow three days later for a home game against Arlesey (ko 3pm).
"It is going to be a tough period for us and we must put our last two disappointing away results behind us and get points on the board," said Wilkins.
The Blues fell to a disappointing 4-1 away defeat against Witham Town on Saturday, Sam Reed scoring the visitors' lone goal early in the second half.
Despite having the majority of the possession and goalscoring chances, it was their hosts who took the three points.
Wilkins admitted his side did not play at their best but he, and the players, were frustrated by the officials in charge of the game.
"Although our display was below par, my main disappointment was with the officials," he said.
"I understand that referees can have bad games, but I still expect them to be fair and this was not the case on Saturday. The players were very angry when they left the pitch," added Wilkins.
The Blues chief says he will rally his team to secure the points needed to stay with the top teams.
"We have got to strengthen our resolve and show what a good side we are," said Wilkins.
A good home result is also vital as a springboard to the Boxing Day game at AFC Sudbury, who will looking for revenge following an early-season FA Cup defeat by the Blues.
"We know they were hurting after that and I expect them to want to prove a point," said Wilkins.
"That said, if we put in a strong performance tomorrow, we can carry the momentum to Sudbury.
"They are a good team and have hit some good form at the moment, but I know we are good enough to get something out of the game," added Wilkins.
