LONDON TWO NORTH EAST: Ipswich 31 Stowmarket 5: Stowmarket travel to table-toppers Saffron Walden (2.15pm) tomorrow full of confidence after an encouraging display in defeat in testing conditions at high-flyers Ipswich.

The visitors’ coaching staff were delighted with the way their side dominated the srcum, in particular.

Missing two players through illness, the result was not the one Stowmarket felt their display in the muddy conditions deserved.

In a local derby full of flair, commitment and open running, the first 20 minutes were an end-to-end battle where defences stood firm.

A quick-thinking move after an offside decision in their favour gave Ipswich the lead, which seemed to cause Stowmarket to sit back and let 19 more points go on the board against them by the break.

A regrouped visiting side got back to their best thereafter with only a fine Littechild try breaching their resilient defence.

Stowmarket kept piling on pressure and a break was made, the ball was chipped through and Tim Smith darted on for a well deserved try to bring the score to 31-5.
