Risby man Doug Theobald hit top form when he competed in the National Greybeards trial, organised by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club.
This unique annual event is restricted to riders of 40 years or more, resident in the UK.
In a field of 110 competitors from England, Scotland, Ireland and a few from Germany and France, Bury club rider Theobald — on his Spanish GAS GAS bike — won the event following a day-long battle with Hampshire’s Dennis Fleet, riding a Honda.
Ixworth’s Kevin Plummer and Doug Barrell, from Badwell Ash, chose to stay nearer to home to compete in the Ipswich Motorcycle Club’s trial, held at Bramford Pits.
Plummer finished fifth and Barrell seventh overall.
This Sunday’s event will take place in Kettering, organised by the Nene Valley Motor Cycle Club.
