Bury’s good run comes to an end

Bury St Edmunds lost to Copdock & Old Ipswichian by 91 runs
BURY St Edmunds’ winning streak was brought to an end after a disappointing 91 run defeat away to Copdock and Old Ipswichians.
Winning the toss, Tom Huggins elected to field, the pitch having not been covered overnight. However, the surface played well as Copdock slowly built a total reaching 79-2 at lunch from 29 overs.
Archie Gravell scored 43 off 115 deliveries when he was caught by Jhunjhunwala off Huggins.
The home side batted soundly, the backbone of the innings being their captain and Suffolk stalwart Chris Swallow, who scored an excellent 74 with wickets in hand.
Some big hitting at the end took the score to 223-6 off a reduced 61 overs.
Huggins bowled 17-4-48-3 and Jhunjhunwala bowled 17 overs for 54 runs with out any fortune.
Justin Bishop, Chris Lomas and Tom Rash took a wicket each.
Bury’s reply started like a T20 game as Huggins scored 18 off 12 deliveries before dragging the ball onto his stumps.
Sasha Ward soon followed but the big wicket was Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, who, after a mixed call, was run out for 13 when he had looked very assured.
Chris Lomas went on to make 19 when harshly adjudged caught and Simon Rees batted well for 43, but the Bury batsmen did not apply themselves in the same way as the home side and were all out for 132.
Chris Swallow followed his runs with a superb bowling performance of 13-2-25-7.

DIVISION THREE
Bury St Edmunds 100-5 II beat Stowmarket 96 by five wickets
BURY won a good toss at home to Stowmarket on their way to victory.
Stowmarket battled hard against a good bowling attack. Javed Imam bowled 13 overs 24-2 and James McKinney 2-35. They were well supported by Sam Harrison, Vivek (3-12) and Stuart Nunn as Stowmarket were all out for 96 with Stowmarket’s Stuart Ward (20) and Paul Blake (32no) offering any resistance.
Bury scored the runs needed thanks largely to Hugo Rynsard-Perry with 49 not out, as he was the only batsman on the day to come to terms with the pitch.
DIVISION FIVE
Tuddenham v Bury St Edmunds III match cancelled
Bury’s 3rd XI arrived at Tuddenham to be met by a deluge of rain with an uncovered track. It was agreed to wait, but further rain caused the game to be called off.
DIVISION EIGHT WEST
Bury St Edmunds IV 144 lost to Nowton 296-5 by 152 runs
BURY switched venues to play a mile up the road at Nowton, who batted first and scored 296-5, on route to a comfortable victory.
Joe Tasker took a wicket before a run was scored, but Ainsley scored 105, his first century of the season before retiring hurt and Desch 78 as Nowton totalled 296-5.
Janak Raj and Cameron Crabtree took two wickets and Chris Honeyball and Tom Curry the others.
Bury, captained by Alex Urquhart, made a decent reply, Urquhart scoring 39 and Pete Thearle 25.
Young Crabtree scored three sixes in his 38 and Tasker, Curry, Spurling and Edwards all competed well against a strong Nowton side as it was left to Turner, to finish it off leaving Bury all out for 144 and Turner with impressive figures 12-6-14-4.
