BURY Town already have one eye on life in the Blue Square Bet Premier – after agreeing a lucrative deal with worldwide sporting-goods retail firm Intersport this week.

On the pitch, the Ram Meadow-based outfit are gunning for successive promotions this term and aim to be toppling big Non-League names such as Grimsby Town and Luton within the next five years.

Off it, the club have stepped up efforts to fund their ambitious plans.

The deal will see the Whiting Street Intersport – which boasts more than 5,000 retail shops across 35 countries – devote a corner of its shop to the town’s football club – selling a range of Bury Town merchandise from replica shirts to scarves.

“The fact of the matter is that Bury Town FC is doing pretty good,” said the club’s commercial assistant manager Mike Rayner this week.

“Our aim is to get this football club to step one Non-League football and that is the Blue Square Premier.

“This club is moving in the right direction under manager Richard Wilkins, but we need to make sure the funds are in place. The higher you move up, the more money you need to compete with the bigger teams.

“We want to get more income and the deal with Intersport is a great start.”

Blues midfield duo James Scowcroft and Neil Andrews will visit the town’s Intersport on Saturday, March 5, as part of the partnership launch.

“It is a two-way deal between the two parties,” added Rayner.

The club are also staging an Eastgate Amateur Boxing Club programme on May 18, a sportsman’s evening with former Peterborough United and Southend manager Barry Fry on the 19th and a summer ball/casino night at Ickworth House on June 10.

n BURY fans who attend either of the club’s next two home fixtures – Carshalton tomorrow (3pm), and Horsham on Tuesday (7.45pm) – will have the chance to win a VIP match experience prize – sponsored by First Stop Travel.

Tickets will be sold for the chance to be a VIP at the Blues’ eagerly- anticipated Suffolk derby clash against Lowestoft Town on Tuesday, February 22.

The winner will be transported to Ram Meadow by limousine, receive four match tickets and four free programmes.

They will receive food and drink during the game and will be presented to their selected man-of-the-match after the final whistle. For further details, call Phil Smailes on 07775 726589.
