GIBBS DENLEY EAST ANGLIAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Bury St Edmunds 143 lost to Great Witchingham 145-6 by four wickets: Bury St Edmunds’ search for a second win of the season continues after they suffered a four-wicket defeat at home to Great Witchingham on Saturday.
The home side batted first and made a decent start after losing Ben Curran (one) early on.
Tom Huggins scored 44 from 60 balls before being caught to leave Bury on 74-2.
Toby Adams gave some good support with a score of 40, but after his dismissal the remaining batsmen never got going.
James McKinney and Adam Mansfield both scored 15 runs before the hosts were bowled out for 143.
Bury started well with the ball after opening batsmen James Spellman’s wicket was taken by Tom Robotham (1-5) with no runs on the board.
However despite the best efforts of bowler Russell Stockdale (4-50), Witchingham reached the target with four wickets to spare.
n Bury St Edmunds II’s Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division Five promotion hopes took a dent as they lost by 20 runs at Brightlingsea on Saturday.
Jonty Poward (2-47) and Vivek Rajagopal (4-51) were the pick of the Bury bowlers, as the hosts finished on 173-9.
But despite the best efforts of Poward (49), Rajagopal (24) and Hassam Dahar (22), the visitors fell short of the target as they completed their innings on 153-9.
n Bury St Edmunds III (198-8) continued their good form to beat promotion-chasing Witham II (153) by 45 runs in Division Five.
Chris Thomas (114 no) battled superbly to help Bury finish on 198-8.
Irfan Amin (5-44) took five Witham wickets to push Bury towards victory.
John Hayes (2-20), Sandeep Singh (2-21) and Freddie Allum (1-3) also took wickets.
