Billiards and Snooker: Defeat drops British Rail B to third spot
BRITISH Rail B have dropped to third place in Bury St Edmunds and District Billiards League, sponsored by A1 Leisure Services, after losing 2-1 at home against Walsham-le-Willows B.
Fine breaks of 30 and 38 from Steve Springham were not enough to avoid defeat for Rail.
Bury Con B won away at Mildenhall B by the same scoreline, but the star of the show was Bernie How of Mildenhall, who is still winning frames at the age of 84.
Mildenhall A continued their winning form following a 2-1 scoreline against Walsham A.
Mildenhall's Scott Nevard recorded the highest break of the week, a superb 55.
The Home Guard derby was closely-contested, but wins from Dick Turpin and Alan Messem claimed the match for the B team.
Home Guard A's Chris Boor scored an amazing eight points from one shot in his winning frame.
British Sugar A fought back from one frame down to beat British Rail A, 2-1 at home.

Snooker. Lavenham A have had their lead cut to two points after narrowly losing away to Thetford SC in the Bury St Edmunds and District Snooker League, sponsored by A1 Leisure Services.
Thetford's Steve Wycherley continued his good form with a fine break of 45.
Mildenhall A took second spot after they recorded a whitewash scoreline away against bottom club Home Guard B.
Sugar A dropped to joint third after their home defeat against Pot Black D. Wins from Mark Crake, Mark Scarfe and Mark Dallorzo saw Pot Black take a three-frame advantage.
A singles' win from Chris Bugg, and Bugg and Paul Keeble in the pairs, made the scoreline look more respectable.
Bury Con A were involved in a tight match away at Lucky Break. The match was decided by Richard Hempstead in the final pairs frame.
Walsham C recorded a solid 4-1 win away at Home Guard A. All the Walsham team won their respective singles frames.
