MAN MOUNTAIN: Edward Selsby with the trophy he received for coming fifth at the NABBA Mr World Body Building competition

BURY St Edmunds’ Edward Selsby has set his sights on a top six finish at this year’s Mr Universe competition after impressing at the National Amateur Body-Builders’ Association (NABBA) Mr World Body Building competition Dublin, Ireland on Saturday.

The 39-year-old owner of the town’s Fitta Bodies gym, on Thingoe Hill, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, finished fifth out of 23 entrants in the competition’s third class, which is for competitors under 5ft 7in.

Selsby, who took up body-building as a hobby as an 18-year-old and started competing at 21, was invited to the competition after winning his class and the overall prize at a Midlands-based competition earlier in the year.

Reflecting on his surprise achievement, Selsby, who trains for up to an hour four times a week, is now targeting a repeat result when he travels to Southport, Mersyside, in November to compete in the Mr Universe event.

“I was really pleased with the result because I honestly didn’t expect to do as well as I did,” he admitted.

“It is the biggest competition I have been part and so that makes the result even more pleasing.

“I only took up body-building as a hobby when I was 18, but now I’m considering taking it up more seriously after doing so well.

“I’m now preparing for the Mr Universe competition and I will be aiming to get another top six finish, which would be fantastic.”
