MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES LEAGUE DIVISION FIVE: Stowmarket 15-0 Bury St Edmunds III 205-4 match abandoned: Bury St Edmunds III were denied the opportunity to challenge for victory away at Stowmarket as the adverse weather halted proceedings.

Despite the wet conditions, play started on time with Bury losing the toss and being put in bat.

On a wicket that looked like it may be difficult to surpass 150, Bury coped surprisingly well with Josh Toon (60), and subsequently Pete Thearle (52) and Tom Fairweather (45no) helping the visitors to build a solid total of 205-4.

In response, Stowmarket had reached 14 for the loss of no wickets before heavy rain led to the game being abandoned. Stowmarket earned eight points while Bury claimed 11.

n Bury IV also suffered the same fate in Division Eight West in their encounter against Stowmarket II.

Janak Raj (35) and Sandeep Singh (42) got Bury off to a blistering start before they fell to brilliant catches from wicket keeper Clive Witherly and Stuart Lilley respectively.

From there Bury managed to make it to 140 as Stowmarket’s Paul Bird claimed three wickets with captain Andrew Holding and youngster Jamie Smith both claiming two a piece,

In reply Bury had Stowmarket at 42-3 before play was abandoned.

n Bury IV did manage to finish a match on Monday but may wished they had not as they slumped to a two-wicket defeat to Brockley II in Division Eight West.

Batting first, Bury made a promising 136-8 with strong displays coming from Josh Toon (29) and Chris Honeyball (42).

Honeyball proved just as effective with the ball and looked to have the young Brockley side in trouble with three wickets to leave them at 17-5.

However, the lower order held their nerve to hold out to win with three overs to spare.

n Monday also saw Bury II in action in Division Three as they secured a seven-wicket victory over Needham Market.

n In Hunts County Bats Suffolk League Division Four, Bury Sunday II eased their way to a 32-run win over Hadleigh courtesy of Pete Thearle (70), Ian Plumb (67) and Raj (53no).
