AFTER a difficult start to the season, Risbygate enjoyed some success in their second round of Cambs League matches this week.
Men's II travelled to Cottenham and were relieved to return home with a 6-2 win.
Debutant Nick Taylor partnered Peter Herriott and they beat the home first pair 6-3, 6-4 before halving with the second pair, 6-3, 4-6.

Morton lost the first set to the hosts' second string 3-6. They adjusted to the courts and played very well in their remaining three sets winning 6-2 against the seconds and 6-2, 6-2 against the firsts.
Men's I lost at home to Cambridge II. It was all going well, with Mike Ellis and Mark Peters beating the second pair and Graham Coult and Mike Batt leading 5-3 and 40/15 before losing that set and then the next set. Graham sustained a calf muscle injury, forcing them to retire and the match was lost 6-2.
Ladies' II lost 5-3 at Cocks & Hens, with Salome Smit and Angela McGowan beating the home second pair but losing to the first pair. Gail Corcoran and Annemarie Viz halved with the second pair but lost to the strong home first pair.
Ladies' II won their second match of the campaign following a 5-3 win against Fulbourn. Gail Corcoran and Jo Beresford beat Fulbourn first pair 6-3, 6-4 and drew with the second pair 7-5, 4-6. Angela McGowan and Anemarie Viz had a lengthy match against Fulbourn second pair 4-6, 2-6, with one game having 12 deuces. They beat the second pair 6-3, 7-6.
Ladies' III lost heavily at Saffron Walden 7-1. Sara Walker and Louise Vivian won one set while Angela McGowan and Abbi Pass battled bravely but could not secure a set.
Men's II opened the summer season with a home match against Cambridge and had a poor start in more ways than one.
With the score at 2-2, after a first round in which Geoff Johnson and Kelvin Morton won both sets comfortably against Cambridge seconds 6-0, 6-2. Barry Pearson and James Corcoran disappointed, fighting hard but going down 6-2, 6-4.
The skies darkened and the rains came, forcing the match to be completed in the wet and under lights.
Cambridge appeared to like these conditions as, in the second round, their first pair beat Geoff and Kelvin 6-3, 6-1 and their seconds improved their play to defeat Barry and James 6-1, 6-4.
Cambridge finished the match worthy 6-2 winners.
