Running: Pacers' relay outfit achieve second-place

THE Ekiden Relay ev took place on Sunday, and it proved to be an enjoyable day for all those who competed.
Steve Robinson, Pete Golding, Peter Barker, Alan Dawson, David Reed and Julian Long, completed the St Edmunds Pacers' A team and they finished the marathon course in an impressive time of under 2.40hrs – yet to be confirmed – to be runners-up in the open event.
Pacers' ladies achieved an outstanding result to finish third in their category behind City of Norwich and Ipswich Jaffas (writes Julia Jepson).
The Muscular Dystrophy fund raising Run/Bike Challenge was staged in Thetford Forest on Friday.
A superb fun race took place, which attracted 76 teams of two sharing the running and cycling of the 11-mile course.
In the overall event, first to cross the line was Chris Sellens and Edmund Kellher in a time of 1:03:23. Stowmarket Striders' pair, Chris Starmer and Nick Stephens, claimed a respectable third-place finish in 1.06.00.
In the ladies' race, the Pacers' pairing of Trish Dennison and Julia Jepson achieved first-place in 1.21.07 hrs, ahead of second-placed Sarah Morris and Abigail Patton.
In the mixed category, Rob Breen and Emma Smith triumphed in 1.13.06 hrs.
The Friday Five series results are now complete and those who competed in at least four of the five races qualify for the series placing.
The ladies from both Pacers and Striders performed consistently well to take many of the prizes.
In the ladies' junior category, Jemma Clarry performed well to score maximum points (400) and take first, with Sharon Rigby fourth and Rebecca Guy fifth.
Tamara Jordon comfortably won the seniors' category after recording maximum points, while sister Rebecca Jordan came third. Striders' club-mate Heidi Bingham finished seventh.
In the Vet 35 section, Striders' Lorraine came fifth, with club-mate Charmaine Geraghty in sixth.
Another maximum score in the series came from Striders' Mary Narey in the Vet 40 age group.
She took first spot ahead of Pacers' Julia Jepson in second with 396 points. In third-place was Striders' Haley Suttle (392), in fourth was Sarah Golding (390), and Striders' Jo Stephens was fifth.
Meanwhile, Pacers' duo Eloise Calver and Haley Brewis finished ninth and 11th respectively.
A maximum 400-point haul was scored by the in-form Pacer Maureen McCarthy in the Vet 45 category. The consistent Karen Hatton claimed fifth.
In the Vet 50 category, Pacers' Helen Snazell claimed a top three spot.
The final maximum 400-point haul was claimed by fellow Pacer Pat Partridge, in the V55 category. Striders' Sue Moggan was third.
Gaz Bryden performed well throughout the series and was rewarded with third overall in the junior section.
The senior men's category produced a clear winner as David Miller enjoyed a clean sweep. Stowmarket's Roger Aldis scored well to finish third.
