Running: Family success at Sawston
A handful of St Edmund Pacers made the short trip to the Sawston fun run – and it was worth the effort.
They scooped the team prize thanks to some strong running from the juniors (writes JULIA JEPSON).
The Sawston (4.8+) fun run had various age categories for the competitors but a combination of four runners – both senior and junior – was needed to collect the first-place prize.
Ian Gooderham and family were once again representing the club and it was his excellent finishing position as 12th V40-54 which got the team off to a great start. Ian's time of 31.29 mins was also something for him to be very satisfied with.
Next to cross the line was Sherilyn Rigby in 36.59 mins and second place in her age group. Jessica Gooderham was running in her first long race and she surpassed all expectations as she finished first in her age category in a time of 39.05 mins.
Her sister, Rebecca, completed the team of four coming eighth in her group in 42.36 mins.
Haverhill Running Club now have a record number of people belonging to the club.
From 63, there should be 26 competing in the Breckland 10K on Sunday.
Two members have been running in their third marathon in just seven weeks.
Ian Longland and Dave Green completed the Stratford upon Avon marathon on Sunday and Ian, who is improving with every run, achieved another personal best with an excellent time of 3hrs 2mins.
Three weeks earlier, Ian ran the Bungay marathon and recorded a very good 3hrs 11mins.
Dave finished at Stratford in a very respectable time of 4hrs 23mins.
The Friday Five races take place across the county – and one in Essex – starting at the end of this month.
To compete for the overall placings at the end of the series, you need to complete four out of the five races. Anyone is welcome to run in any of the races provided there is space.
Last year, the Bury five had to stop taking entries on the day as the race was full, so pre-entering is wise.
A junior run is also planned at each of these events but times vary slightly so check before you go!
