A good crowd were entertained by a tough-fought encounter between these two sides at The Haberden.
Oaklands College are associated with Saracens and the final score was a credit to the local lads, who rose to the challenge of a tough test of skill.

With ball in hand, both sides looked dangerous and both defences were tested to the full.

The forward battle was ferocious as neither set of players was willing to take a backward step.

Dom Roberts was forced from the action following a shoulder injury, but Dan Mallinson filled the hooker slot well and there was no disruption to the style of play.

In the back-line, both sides were exciting while the West Suffolk College centres led the way in defence and attack with the wings continually pinning the defenders with great speed and chasing.

The only score in the first half came after Toby Berridge danced through the visiting defence before scampering over for a well-deserved try.

The second half brought more of the same – great rugby in a great setting, in great conditions.

The pace did not falter, neither did the total commitment of both sets of players.

Oaklands started to take the game to West Suffolk but the Bury St Edmunds- based college refused to take a backward step.

Stalwarts Ben Cooper and Matt Edison combined in midfield. Their skill created the slightest of gaps and Patrick Harrison was quick to react.

He flashed through the gap taking the most delicate of passes to cross close to the posts. Michael Calton showed a calm head to add the extra two points.

In the remaining quarter of the game, Oaklands tried to break down the home defence.

However, West Suffolk were happy to absorb the pressure and counter-attack with speed and purpose to fully stretch the Saracens-trained outfit.
