James Owen rode a treble at the Suffolk Hunt Point-to-Point staged at Ampton on Sunday.
Owen is pre-training at the Dalmar Lodge Stables for Peter Chappel Hyam and Ed Vaughan with Kelly Smith, who trains point-to-pointers.

In the first race, the Members, Owen rode Kelly and her mother Sharon Everitt's Tregastel, beating the odds-on favourite Cosmic Sky.

Owen took him on from the start, forging ahead at the first fence and never looking like being caught.

This was an emotional victory for Kelly and her mother as the horse was purchased last June from Ascot sales with a legacy from her grandmother, Peggy Maskell, in her suggested colours which she had never used, of light and dark blue.

The Turner family, from Ampton, recorded their first win of the season when Owen piloted the former Ferdy Murphy Winapenny to victory in the Confined.

This was a well-judged ride by Owen, who stalked Rosie Chinery on Baron Bernard before making his move at the bottom of the final hill to pass the post three lengths clear.

He recorded his third success in the Men's Open. On another Turner horse, Thoutmosis. He is a former Lenny Lungo horse and had won three hurdle races fo rhim. This was his first taste of fences and Thoutmosis coped admirably, winning by a distance from the Martin Ward-trained and owned Quality First.

Ward, who trains near Ely, went one better in the Restricted. Although a two-horse race, Perfect Prefect and Kilfenora Ceili made it interesting. Perfect Prefectt, under Harry Fowler who had been thrown in the paddock before the race, went away from three out.

The Ladies' Open was won by Find Me Another, wearing cheek pieces for the first time, with Amy Stennett in the plate. This was a well-deserved victory, as Amy, the trainer, does all the work with the horse from Dullingham as well as holding down a full time job in Newmarket.

She beat the favourite, Full Time Irish, ridden by Zoe Turner.

The final race of the day gave another victory to trainer Kelly Smith, with Margaret Brightwell's Onyx d'Ace. Tim Lane defeated James Owen on The Right People.

The first two pony races of the East Anglian series took place before the main card.

Eleven-year-old Kia O'Hara took the first for ponies of 12.2 hands and under on Bureside Snickers William. Robin Plum, 13, won 13.2 and under on Buster.

The next meeting is the Fitzwilliam (Milton) at Cottenham tomorrow, first race noon.
