The fourth round of the BTRDA Rally Championship gathered competitors at Minehead for the start of the Somerset Stages Rally.

With the exception of the Porlock Hill toll road, this event comprised gravel-surfaced stages which were in a dry and dusty condition.
The rally saw local driver, Owen Le-Roy, open his account for 2008 in style. With Charlotte Kimber again in the co-driver's seat, Le-Roy took his Vauxhall Astra to a class victory.
For Clare Rix and Rob Cook, the dust settled around three-and-a-half miles into the penultimate special stage. Their Ford Ka had been giving gearbox trouble nd here it failed altogether. This is their second retirement of the season and this puts pressure on their 2007 title defence.

Round two of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship was contained in the Pirelli Rally, using the Kershope and Kielder forests.
Local representation came from Ian Rix and Daniel Stone in their MKI Ford Escort which Ian unfortunately managed to roll on the last stage of the first leg. The most serious damage was the loss of the windscreen. This was replaced and they went on to finish 43rd from a field of 64.

MOTOR RACING. It was to be a short involvement in the Tin Tops race at Brands Hatch for the Honda Civic of Rob Dyball and Mark Livens.
In qualifying, Rob put the car third on the grid behind two Honda Integras, but again it was Mark taking the opening drive.
Sadly, this only lasted as far as the Druids Hairpin on the warm-up lap. Here, the engine died with a suspected fuel pump failure.
The Formula Junior race at Brands was a two-car affair, with Brian Mitcham's Weiner part of it.
Having qualified second, Mitcham was in a race-long duel with the pole-sitter as the lead was shared between them. Such was their dominance, the third-placed driver was lapped and only 0.6 seconds separated the pair at the end, with Mitcham second.
This weekend, the Weiner returns to Brands as part of a Formula Junior display in the Global Village, which in turn forms part of the A1 Grand Prix meeting at the Kent venue.
On Monday, Mitcham teams up with Tony Davis at Donington Park. Here, they drive the Sebring Sprite in the Cloth Cap event for pre-66 sports cars, over a 45-minute duration.

SHORT CIRCUIT. Not too much activity among local Superstox competitors, but Garry Sparkes recently took in an outing at Great Yarmouth.
The two heats brought him a fifth and fourth-place finish. The final was going well until a differential failure forced retirement.
Matt Carberry has sold his car, and will be out until his new replacement is available.
This weekend, the English Champion-ship is being decided at Aldershot, but will there be local involvement?
