ELLIOT Stafford's season continues to flourish as he contests his first full year in motor racing.
Recently, making his first appearance at Rockingham, the Mildenhall-based driver contested the latest round of the Mighty Mini Championship.

Saturday qualifying produced a second on the grid, despite considerable damage being caused by another com
petitor. During the race, Stafford continued to hold this position and, with the championship leader only in a fifth-place finish, he is now two points away from the overall lead of the series.

Stafford's next outing is a double-header at Oulton Park, on August 2-3.

At Donington Park, a strong wind was the feature for the 750MC meeting. For John Cutmore, the conditions resulted in his worst qualifying session of the season, putting the Westfield fourth in class for the grid of the RGB Championship race.

However, during the race, a class third was achieved, with his closest rival further back.

This result puts Troston-based Cutmore in the overall championship lead, as well as the class category.

For Matt Green, it was not the best of days. A suspension breakage during qualifying saw him line-up well down the RGB grid. The race saw a good improvement, until a misfire on the Fisher Fury dropped him down the order.

The Formula Vee single-seaters were out in force and, for Stephen Glasswell, a good qualifying session put him fourth fastest.

Close racing saw the Bury-based driver involved in a four-car battle for positions. This was eventually resolved in a ninth-place finish for the Storm driver.

For Steve Lumley, it was also a ninth place-finish at the end of the Toyota MR2 event. This is the lowest position of the season for the Risby driver, and it followed a qualifying position of 12th. With the championship leader winning the race, Lumley's challenge for the title has taken a temporary setback.

V8 Trophy organiser, Duane Kidd, has just returned from the Farnborough Air Show where the V8-powered cars were on display.

He reports that a good deal of interest was shown and many people were not aware that it is possible to compete in one of these cars for as little as £1,500 per event.

Their next outing will be at Snetterton, on August 24-25. Details on www.v8trophy.com.

MOTOR RACING. If you have ever given any thought to joining a motor club, a visit to the Auto Retro Show – to be held at Stonham Barns on August 10 – is a good idea.

The show, staged on the Mid Suffolk Showground, features many things connected with motoring – including motorsport organisers. Among them will be West Suffolk MC, who will not only have representatives on hand, but also competition cars.

The show is open from 10am to 5pm, and admission is £6, under-12s free.

The MSA are currently promoting a 'volunteers in motorsport' initiative. Its aim is to get people, who do not want to compete, involved in the sport. There are a lot of options open and joining a local motor club is the first step to a new hobby or career.
