The last two weekends have seen the conclusion of the 2007 motor racing season.
The Birkett Six Hours Relay at Silverstone saw good results for both Kevin Williams and Steve Lumley.

It was a second overall in the scratch section for the team known as Nearly Six Sevens, containing Williams in his Caterham.

For a good while
they held the lead before, in the heat of battle, Williams overtook another competitor during a yellow-flag situation. He was black-flagged and given a warning by the clerk of the course, losing the team almost certain victory due to time lost.

The handicap saw Lumley's team, Rogues Troopers, field a pack of Toyota MR2s. They held the lead for four hours before finishing third but winning their class after an incident-free run.

In the recently-finished MR2 Series, Lumley secured an excellent second place in his first season in the sport.

Chedburgh's Stephen Pearson ended his year at Snetterton on Sunday. He took in an open saloon car event comprising two races, driving his former rally-prepared Rover V8-powered Ford Escort.

A puncture, coupled with an accident-shortened qualifying session, saw him line-up sixth from the 17-strong field.

However, it was not long before he held the race lead. After 10 of the 15 laps, Stephen was overtaken by a BMW Z3, but retained second place to the finish.

Race two saw him on the front row and again the V8 power took him into the lead. However, the BMW again secured top spot, with a Yamaha motorcycle-powered Mini also getting through, demoting Stephen to third in a car with now failing brakes.

Production Car Trial. An excellent venue at Kensworth, in Bedfordshire, saw the Falcon MC Guy Fawkes Trial on Sunday.

Three competitors from West Suffolk MC competed in class A. It was no surprise that the Fiat Panda of David Holmes emerged winner of this category. The Citroen AX GTs of Robin Howard and Cliff Morrell, came home in fourth and fifth positions.

Rallycross. Two days of intense action at Croft saw the Yorkshshire circuit host the final two rounds of the MDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship, and the flagship event of 2007 in the UK – the Jersey Farm Hotel-sponsored Rallycross Superprix.

No less than 81 races were fitted into the two days and 13-times European Champion, Kenneth Hansen, retained the Superprix title in his Citroen C4.

Local driver Andy Brinkley, in his Stock Hatch Peugeot 205, secured sixth as his best result, in the B final on Sunday. The car was as quick as I have ever seen it, with qualifying heats producing race-lead situations. However, the occasional spin prevented him getting the kind of result he now looks capable of achieving.

Rallying. By the time you read this, the 2007 Lombard Rally will have left its start venue at Gaydon. Following a visit to Silverstone, the rally moves to Wales, including race circuits at Llandow and Anglesey.

Among the 120 starters, father and son Jeremy and James Crook, will compete in their Peugeot 106.

Diary Dates. Production Car Trial. Chelmsford MC, Sunday. Mill Hill Trial, Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford.
Short Circuit. Wimbledon, Sunday, 5pm. National Banger Championship; 1300 Stock Cars.
Motor Racing. Brands Hatch, MSVR, Saturday and Sunday.
