UNDEFEATED Bury Town FC take a break from league action tomorrow, travelling to Deeping Rangers for a FA Cup preliminary round tie.
The Blues, who boast an unbeaten run in the BGB League Division One Midlands, are looking for a lucrative cup run to add to their early-season success.

Town collected six points from two league fixtures in three days over the holiday weekend, defeating Marlow 1-0 at home on Saturday, before adding a 2-0 success away at Soham Town Rangers on Monday.

Team manager Richard Wilkins has been delighted with his team's opening two weeks of action which has seen his side grow in confidence.

"There is a belief in the team at the moment and our performances are showing that," he said.

On Saturday, the Blues had five first-team regulars absent from their squad, but the replacement stepped up to the challenge to record a deserved three points.

"It was not the most attractive of games, but we dug deep and got the job done," said Wilkins.

"Against Soham, still without central defenders Gavin Johnson and Roscoe Hipperson, we dominated for long periods and never looked like losing," he added.

Wilkins is hopeful that striker Liam Barrett and Hipperson will be fit to travel to the Market Deeping-based club tomorrow.

"We go as the underdogs but that will suit us," said Wilkins.

"At this stage of the season, a cup run would be a much-nreded financial boost," he added.

MILDENHALL TOWN FC hope to have three key defenders back fit when they travel to Wisbech Town for an FA Cup preliminary round tie tomorrow (ko 3pm).

Central defensive pair Dave Werthman and Darren Coe are expected to recover from leg and finger injuries respectively, while left full-back Matty Ryland is also close to a return.

"Having all three players back in contention for what will be a difficult game will be a major boost," said team boss Dave Pinkowski.

After suffering their first defeat of the season – 3-0 against Harwich & Parkeston – on Saturday (report on page 51), Hall bounced back to defeat newly-promoted Tiptree United 2-1 on Tuesday.

Robbie Harris continued his rich vein of form after netting two penalties.

Town are back in Ridgeons League Premier Division action on Tuesday, when they host Haverhill Rovers at Recreation Way (ko 7.45pm).

Danny Laws blasted his NEEDHAM MARKET FC players after the Reds suffered their biggest defeat under his two-year stint as team manager.

Needham were defeated 5-0 at home against Lowestoft Town on Tuesday, and Laws is promising supporters a better performance when his side visit Soham Town Rangers in the FA Cup preliminary round tomorrow (ko 3pm).

"I could go into detail about how and why we lost, but the bottom line is it was the worst performance I have seen since taking over at the club," said Laws.

"I am extremely unhappy and I need to think hard about team selection and will make sure the 11 men picked will play with hunger and passion," said Laws.
