Clacton 224-8, Bury St Edmunds 294-4. Match drawn.

Bury St Edmunds batted first on a good track at Clacton. Justin Bishop opened the batting with Tom Huggins (39) and scored 87 for the first wicket.

Bishop made 52, but the major stand of the day followed their departure when Danish captain Fredd
ie Klokker and young Josh Davey added 151 runs for the third wicket.

Klokker was out for 85, but Josh, who looks like achieving a contract with Middlesex next season, batted on to the 66th over and finished with 97no just short of a first Premier League century.

In reply, Simon Rees bowled the in-form Martin Cull and, when Tom Huggins trapped former West Indian test player Simon Williams, for 13, the home side were in trouble. James Alder batted well for his 82.

After he was out, Bury almost won the day, with Tom Rash bowling 6-2-7-4 with five wickets falling for just 20 runs, but the Clacton tail held firm to complete the game in the 58th over.

In the Two Counties Division Three game, Mark Nunn scored his second consecutive 100 for the Bury 2nd XI, against leaders Dunmow.

Bury had a tough start, as Dunmow put on over 100 for the first wicket, but tight bowling by Viveck and Aldous kept the visitors down to 225-5 despite some indifferent fielding as the 45 overs were completed.

Dave Drury batted well early on, but Mark Nunn played the outstanding innings of the day (111no), his partnership with Simon Aldous taking the team to victory with 10 balls to spare.

Division Five

Mildenhall III 239-5, Bury St Edmunds III 182. Mildenhall III won by 57 runs.

The 3rd XI travelled to Mildenhall and lost the toss. The home side scored 239. With good bowling by Tom Robertham and Imam, Jason Weston took his first wicket.

Bury were 50 runs short of the target but Peter Thearle (27), Owen Grisby (24), Ashley Smith (26) and Kevin Dobson – who top scored with 42 – batted well.

On Sunday, Bury played a friendly against Wicken on the main square. It is good to see the ground being used for friendly cricket.

Bury scored 251 in their 40 overs. Sam Bishop, Dan Tasker, Frank Stennett and Kevin Dobson were among the runs. However, Bob Steward confused the visitors off his long run as he took his first-ever wicket, a brilliant catch by Simon Thearle at third slip. Simon rolled back the years as he took a superb catch in the deep and took two wickets with his first two balls.

Cecil & Larter players-of-the-week: Josh Davey, Freddie Klokker, Tom Rash, Mark Nunn, Kevin Dobson and Simon Thearle.

Suffolk Cup

The Suffolk Cup game, due to be played at Tuddenham on Sunday, was conceded by Tuddenham, who could not get a team.

President's footnote: The transfer of Mark Nunn has been subject to a complaint to the Two Counties League.
