HORRINGER-based Brian Phillips scored a second successive victory on a night that produced an amazing number of personal bests on the West Stow 10.1-mile course.
Out of the 17 riders taking part, no fewer than seven reached the finish time-keeper quicker than ever before.

The most prolific improver was third-placed Jeff Agricole, who this season has slashed nearly a minute off his time on each of his last three outings on this circuit. He also boasts a further four personal bests.

Second fastest – and a pb by 25 seconds – was Paul Rooke, 10 seconds behind Phillips.

Results: 1 Brian Phillips (E Grinstead CC) 23:07; 2 Paul Rooke (WSW) 23:17; 3 Jeff Agricole (WSW) 23:24; 4 David Giffin (WSW) 24:01; 5 David Young (WSW) 24:56; 6 Brian Starr (WSW) 25:22; 7 Gavin Moore (WSW) 25:43; 8 Adrian Turner (Mildenhall CC) 25:48; 9 John Steed (WSW) 26:22; 10 Mark Eastwood (WSW) 26:34; 11 Gareth Doman (WSW) 26:51; 12 Esther Colman (WSW) 28:19; 13 Jack Delaney (WSW) 28:50; 14 Graham Fish (WSW) 29:11; 15 Ann Fish (WSW) 30:12; 16 Sean Pitts (WSW) 30:31; 17 Dick Lines (WSW) 30:53.

Nearly 30 youngsters turned up to the West Suffolk Wheelers' Go-Ride campaign for Summer 08 staged at Priory School in Bury St Edmunds.

Helped by a dozen club members and parents, under the direction of WSW coach Neville Pettitt, the more proficient riders joined a tour round the cycle paths in the Moreton Hall area, while the others enjoyed racing round the playing field.

British Cycling's Go-Ride initiative, which is now in its eighth year, is the grassroots of their immensely successful programme of youth training. This is not just a cycling proficiency course, it helps to uncover talent at the start.

The Beijing Olympic GB Cycling team are set to bring home medals this year – potentially more than all other sports combined – and it begins with Go-Ride.
