THERE were two outstanding performances from Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club teams on Saturday.
Visiting Norwich, in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League, Bury St Edmunds 1st XI were invited to bat by their hosts and proceeded to give a superb batting display.

Tom Huggins continued his fine form with 74 and he was well-supported by Josh Davey (46) and Chris Warn (34).

However, the star of the show proved to be Nick Lee, who came good to record an outstanding 108no and a total of 286-4 gave the visitors double first innings points.

In reply, the visitors' bowling was a bit ragged. However, once Ben France and Tom Huggins had joined the attack, the home batsman returned to the pavilion at regular intervals.

Huggins has developed into a genuine all- round cricketer – his spin bowling achieving figures of six wickets for 50 runs from 14.3 overs.

France took 2-27 while Simon Rees and Mark Nunn also took a wicket apiece.

The match also featured a magnificent boundary catch from James Lofts.

The result lifts Bury into second place, a remarkable achievement for a team with no overseas players and a policy of giving young players their chance in this high level of cricket.

Bury St Edmunds 2nd XI eclipsed the first-string following a remarkable demolition of Ipswich, the Two Counties Division Three leaders.

Batting first, Bury scored 202 – Brian Barker leaving the harvest field to plunder five sixes in an innings of 61. He was well- supported by Craig Estlea (37) and Kevin Shaw (35).

Ipswich had no answer to the Bury bowlers, although Mark Geeves went for two sixes in the first over, he refocussed before recording figures of 10-4-26-4.

With the pace of Pineo and guile of Shaw in support, the visitors struggled and were all out for 59.

It is not often that Bury St Edmunds defeat both Ipswich and Norwich on the same day.

Cecil & Larter players of the week: Tom Huggins, Nick Lee, Brian Barker and Mark Geeves.

Tomorrow, Bury host their final EAPL League game, Fakenham visiting the Victory Ground.

The 2nd XI travel to Copford and the 3rd XI visit Eight Ash Green.

On Sunday, Bury host Horringer in the Hunts County Bats Division Three.
