Bowls: Lilley is champion of champions

SUFFOLK County Women's Bowls Association county semi-finals and finals were held at St Edmundsbury Bowls Club in Bury St Edmunds at the weekend.
Spectators were entertained by some very good bowling and the winners will go on to the national finals to be held in Skegness, next month.

Results. Two-Wood Singles: J Pitcher (Waldringfield) 21, A Gooch (Sole Bay) 14.; J Laws (Sproughton) 21, M Grant (Tuddenham) 20. Final: L J Pitcher 21, J Laws 10.

Four-Wood Singles: E Singpson (Norbridge) 21, J Batley (Kessingland) 18; K James (Woodbridge) 21, S Plummer (Rookery) 17. Final: E Simpson 21, K James 13.

Senior Singles: M Grant (Tuddenham) 21, D Wolton (Bramford) 18; J Childs (Yoxford) 13, C Daniels (Lowestoft Rail) 21. Final: M Grant 18, C Daniels 21.

In Bury and District Bowls League Division One, St Botolphs A hosted bottom club, West Row.

With two winning rinks on each side, the final score of 77-76 secured the home side a 4-2 points victory.

Second-placed Greene King are close behind following a 5-1 win away against Walsham-le-Willows.

In Division Two, half-a-point separates the top three teams. Mildenhall were involved in a very close game away at Elmswell. Each team had one winning rink, the other two being drawn. The final score was 73-72 in Elmswell's favour, giving them a 4-2 points win.

Hengrave travelled to Coney Weston where they succeeded in picking up five points, enough to take them to the top of the table on shots difference ahead of Elmswell. Mildenhall sit in third place.

Pakenham enjoyed a substantial victory at home against British Sugar B, with their rink of Mary Sadler, Jon Burrows and Carl Buckle scoring 42-4.

Risbygate B recorded their first win of the season, away to Great Barton, by just two shots. However, they remain 10 points adrift at the foot of the table.

In Division Three, British Sugar A remain in top spot after winning 5-1 at home against Brandon.

Barnham retained second place after scoring four points in their home game with Hopton.

Thetford Ex-Servicemen were at home to Thurston and replaced their visitors in third spot following a 5-1 triumph.
