Thousands of residents and commuters have been affected by the three week closure of Crown Street, in Bury St Edmunds, with everyone having to set aside extra time every day – amounting to many thousands of hours.
In Cambridge, where East Road is currently partially closed for works on gas pipes, a gas spokesman stated in a newspaper report that they were speeding things up – “Staff have been working seven days a week and from early in the morning until late into the evening.”
Why don’t we get this in Bury? At 3.30pm one day this week I saw one solitary worker in Crown Street digging a hole. This three-week misery could have been halved with a similar approach in Bury. Why are the borough and county councils allowing this to happen?
