As a result of the appeal in the Bury Free Press (Letters, March 9) asking people to respect the area of Luke’s memorial at St Olaves prercinct, I am happy to report an immediate tidying up of the site and a marked reduction of rubbish strewn around. The daffodils are in bloom and other bushes and plants are beginning – despite the drought – to flourish. Unfortunately you don’t have to venture far away to come across the usual assortment of cans, bottles, empty food cartons, sweet wrappers etc which all go to spoiling what would otherwise be a pleasant estate.
