A talented group of young people have graduated from a council’s first ever internship programme.

The initiative, launched by Suffolk County Council in March, gives recent graduates and local university students the chance to work at the authority for 12 weeks during their summer break.

In its first year there were 100 expressions of interest with 14 placements across the council in areas such as public health, resource management as well as economy and skills.

Sarah James-Ford 20, who is studying at Kent University, said: “Not only were we able to get a real sense of what it was like to work full time in such a large organisation but we were also able to meet the senior leadership team and get solid career advice.”
